Knitter’s Jig Ceilidh Band

Based in the Midlands, Knitter's Jig is recognised as one of the top traditional ceilidh bands around. Our usual line up is between 3 and 5 musicians (with caller) depending on the type of event and budget.  All band members are fine musicians with many years experience of playing for both concerts and dances. The core line up includes Alice on fiddle, Nick on accordion and Glen on double bass and bodhran with one of the musicians (usually Glen or Alice) doubling as caller.  This is one of our most popular line-ups and is ideal for most family and social events.  However it can be supplemented by requesting additional musicians (Dale on guitar and/or Olive on fiddle).  Our callers are excellent at delivering lively, interesting entertainment with sets of dances ideal for friendly social dancing and they will ensure everyone has the opportunity to join in the fun.

Alice is the band leader and has been playing in English country dance bands since she was 13.  She is an exceptionally fine fiddle player and accomplished caller. She also has a good turn of speed for lively Scottish and Irish jigs and reels and will usually play a selection at each event.

Nick is an accomplished piano accordion player and guitarist. He has been playing accordion for over 30 years and guitar for more years than he likes to let on.  Nick has played regularly in several dance bands and Morris sides. He has duo'd with Alice for several years and is a keen supporter of early English music.

Glen is the final core member of the band.  He plays double bass, guitar and bodhran (not all at the same time) - and will be the caller at many of the dances. Glen has been around the music scene for many years playing with a number of folk and covers bands.

Dale (accordion/guitar) and/or Olive (fiddle) are both accomplished musicians with considerable experience playing in both concert and dance bands.  Their expertise adds that little bit of sparkle to the sound.
